As We Reflect

In an article from a news source this morning………..

NEW YORK – Relatives of World Trade Center victims bowed their heads in silence at a small park Tuesday to mark the moment exactly six years earlier when the first hijacked plane struck the towers.

The firefighters and first responders who helped rescue thousands that day in 2001 and later recovered the dead were to read the victims’ names for the first time.

As I went to bed last night, the memories of 9/11 were in my mind. Forever ingrained by the graphic images of TV and other media, these are not something I will soon forget. But today I want to talk about another group of people.

In the 11th Chapter of Hebrews we are reminded of a group of people who suffered much also. We oftentimes call that chapter of the Word the “Hall of Faith”.  As believers, we should constantly remember the path’s that our forefathers in the faith blazed for us.

We are humans are so fickle. How quickly we forgot 9/11 and started going about our lives again, and so soon taking for granted that our elected officials were going to protect us from another such disaster. The fight against terrorism goes on behind the scenes as we work and play. We are for the most part, oblivious to all that transpires.

It is so in the spiritual realm also. How soon we take for granted the miracle that we saw last week or the blessing that God provided a month ago. What we don’t realize the full impact of is this; how the ultimate terrorist – Satan – is constantly pulling us down as we get comfortable and let down our guard.  Just as we cannot fully depend on our elected officials to keep us safe from radical extremists, neither can we think that our pastors and leaders in the church can keep us safe from the attacks of the enemy. We must be vigilant ourselves.

1Pe 5:8  Be sensible and vigilant, because your adversary the Devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking someone he may devour;

1Pe 5:9  whom firmly resist in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions in the world are being completed in your brotherhood.

1Pe 5:10  But the God of all grace, He calling us to His eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after you have suffered a little, He will perfect, confirm, strengthen, and establish you.

Blessings to you today!
